Not over the counter. You will need to go to a medical center and get a prescription. As soon as you arrive, ask your hotel/guesthouse where is the nearest they recommend. You will be abe to see a doctor straight away and will be able to pick up your medication that day.
sure…you can certainly get malaria pills in pharmacies in South Africa…
All pharmacies supply them, over the counter. BUT you must start the course 2 - 4 weeks before going to a malaria area. In winter it is not so serious. (No mosquito’s around.)
Peace.
I have never had a prescription for anti-malaria pills. As stated before you need to take them BEFORE you enter a malaria area.
Yes, you can buy them at any pharmacy, but as my fellow South Africans have stated, you should start the course before the time.
As a matter of fact, many doctors **** the pills, because it suppresses the symptoms, which makes it hard for them to detect malaria. When I was working in Hoedspruit and every time I visited the Kruger Park(High risk areas) I used Dettol soap and Tabard mosquito & insect repellant which worked just fine.
Yes you can get anything over the counter in South Africa any drugs,if not you can get it on the streets.
