Malaria Treatment FAQ:

If you contracted it in World War II while stationed in the Phillipines could it cause things like heart murmurs or do any weakening of the valves. Or could it affect muscles in the body?

If it is entirely cured I know of no lasting effects.

Malaria eventually ends up in the liver.. it goes quiescent for some periods of time. It does not get cured.. It may be controlled but, that is the extent of help available.

I think there would be greater risk of kidney problems than heart problems. When the organism destroys RBCs these can form complexes that injure the kidneys. If you have kidney problems then you can get hypertension that can then cause heart problems.
I think that if you are just now getting heart problems, then it is most likely due to genetics, age, and lifestyle.
