Could have west nile but malaria? I doubt that chill out Getting bite by mosquito is a common thing.

Possible, but highly highly unlikely. Mosquitoes like more moist environments such as the Midwest where they can find standing water to lay eggs.

West Nile is in California. The chances are slim that you will get the disease, but keep an eye on it and use mosquito repellent in the future.

I’m in California and I got in total 17 mosquito bites all over my body and im still alive and not feeling ill. Yea theres a chance that some of the mosquitos carry the west nile virus but its rare. hhmm the malaria..I doubt it..in california. No worrys, most likely that bite on your face is virus free.

While I haven’t heard of any malaria cases in the states, mosquitoes here definitely can carry West Nile. And yes, even in California. Several cases are reported every year. Most people that contract West Nile Virus have flu like symptoms and that’s about it. Some need hospitalization, especially if they are older or have weakened immune systems. Deaths from West Nile are rare. Recently, there was a case here in far Northern California where a young woman was bitten by a mosquito (around 19 - very healthy) and she is currently undergoing physical therapy to recover from the effects of that particular strain of West Nile that she was infected with. Yes folks… there is more than one strain of West Nile Virus! However, I wouldn’t worry too much. If you feel like you may be coming down with the flu, get to your doctor, let them know you were bitten and they can run some tests. To prevent being bitten again, make sure to use insect repellent when you’re outside - especially around dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active, and remove all standing water around the property - mosquitoes can breed in about a teaspoon (or tablespoon?) of water.
