I know that the region of Punta Cana had problems in the past
with some people who drank water from a river near the Golden Jail Hotels, and they had some minor problems but not malaria! Anyway I prefer Puerto Plata, more to see and the new beaches are fantastic!! They do the world championship there so the beaches must be good and better than in Punta Cana
Don’t worry so much!!! I travel alot and never have gotten sick. Make sure you are in good heath and keep some echanacea with you. If you feel like you’re coming down with something, take a few and keep taking them for a few days. You’ll be okay. also, use some bug spray and make sure you’re sleeping quarters are bug-free.
I lived in the Dominican Republic for a year and never got sick, so don’t worry yourself about this. You are more likely to get Dengue than malaria, but that usually only occurs in rural areas or areas with sitting water. Just make sure to stay up on your mosquito repellent and bug sprays because the mosquitoes are carnivorous out there! You will have a blast and trust me…Malaria will be the least of your worries
Went to Punta Cana in 05 and did not get sick. I also did not take any special medications before I went there.
no u do not need malaria pill, the only way to u might want to think about it is when u go to or get closed to Haiti. but u said Ur going to punta cana so don’t worry about the pill.me and my family never took malaria pills. didnt get sick!

don’t drink tap water
just the water from bottle, water they serve u in the restraints and ice cubs is fine to drink!
I didn’t but if you think it will ruin your holiday or want to be cautious just take them then you won’t worry.

I’ve had to take them before and yes, i would recommend it!!! you dont want to get malaria!!! and i would suggest asking your doctor what you should do about dengue, there has been quite a breakout there…
