Malaria Treatment FAQ:
or would it only work for people who travel there (because they have better health?). Any examples of good bug repellents would be great, thanks.

repellents are usually not the best answer for this situation. the majority of the insects that carry malaria (mostly mosquitoes) bite people at night. sleeping under a bug net is almost a surefire way to prevent this. the problem occurs when people don’t have access to nets, or if they have them but aren’t aware of the importance of using them regularly. lots of people receive mosquito nets but use them for other purposes bc they can’t afford tools and material for daily life.
repellent is insecticide, which is harmful to the individual and also to the environment. on a large scale, it would be a horrible idea to give everyone bug repellent because it would be producing a very large amount of poison, and the containers it came in would produce waste. it’s probably more expensive than a net, as well.
to answer your question directly, bug repellent WOULD decrease their chance of getting malaria, but it would probably cause other health concerns if the person had to use it every night.
also, people who travel may be just as healthy as someone in africa. bug repellent would probably not affect them in different ways
well i cant reply to that but they have cured malaria and are making microbacteria that produce the cure to make it cheaper for people like this.
