NO.

If you’re on a resort you’re fine. I would only take them if traveling to the border region with Haiti since that area is more prone to rain, dengue and mudslides.

Just use caution eating food on the street. If it doesn’t look well cook, don’t eat. Drink bottled water when on the street or at a private home. Hotels and resorts have great filtering systems so you should be fine to drink tap water from inside them.

Like already told 1000x times before, this is not Africa. No you don´t need anti-malaria pills or anything to travel and to discover the Dominican Republic. Most of the time the tourist who are ill, is because they had the decease before incoming the country, or by drinking to much!….
Just drink enough bottle water and look after not to eat food that is sold on the streets. Hotels and restaurants have filters for tab water. Enjoy it!

No there are very few cases of malaria in the DR and they almost all occur in remote agricultural areas. There are very few mosquitos in the DR because there are literally billions of small lizards on the island that eat most of them. You will see lizards on litterally every tree on the island and at night you will geckos on many walls. They all eat about 100 insects a day.

In over six months of living in the DR, I think I got two mosquito bites.
