Malaria Treatment FAQ:
hi, I grew up in Africa, so I’ve had malaria about 3 times (last time was about 6 yrs ago). It’s like the common cold there, really. I was going to donate blood but a lot of people I’ve met here seem to think that malaria is like an incurable disease akin to AIDS and tell me I shouldn’t. So I just wanted to re-check, can I donate blood?

consult the red cross and a medical doctor
From the redcross website you should be good to go if you have not been to africa in the last 12 months and have not had malaria in the past 3 years.
I don’t believe so, but check with LifeSource. Malaria is like AIDS or hepatits only in that it something which can be treated, but not cured.
Blood donations are not tested for malaria. Wait 3 years after completing treatment for malaria. Wait 12 months after returning from a trip to an area where malaria is found. Wait 3 years after living in a country or countries where malaria is found.
