Why do people focus so much on AIDS when malaria kills so people annually?

Malaria Treatment FAQ: Is it just because lot of famous people have died from AIDS or because it’s more prevalent in America or something? I just saw on yahoo that it’s “World AIDS Day” yet I’ve never heard about anything like that for malaria.
